Director's Statement
The approach of filmmaking we used in Delupi is rooted in immediacy. We are living in a world full of events. In this way, we try to convert an event to a fictional story in fastest way. We call this method “fishing with a rod,” where we immerse ourselves in real events and extract narratives that resonate universally.
Delupi is a reflection of contemporary Bangladesh. By zooming in on the microcosm of a single village, Delupi explores universal themes: the consequences of political upheaval, the simplicity and strength of love, the struggles of artists for freedom of expression, and the resilience of ordinary people.
The story delves into the duality of human nature, presenting both the good and bad sides of its characters. It doesn’t judge or preach but instead invites audiences to confront their own complexities through the lens of these villagers. The story doesn’t offer clear resolutions because the country itself is in flux. Yet, it carries a message of hope: the resilience of our people, the refusal of the younger generation to compromise with injustice, and the indomitable power of love and solidarity.
At its core, Delupi is a testament to human strength. The courage to confront adversity, the willingness to stand by one another, and the triumph of love over division. Delupi is an experience, a mirror through which we can face ourselves, our society, and the forces that shape our lives.
Journey of Delupi
The journey of Delupi began in the devastating floods of August 2024, in Deluti Union of Khulna. Amid the rising waters, we travelled deep into that remote riverside region along the Bhadra.
We stayed in the flood shelters, lived among the villagers, and slowly discovered the stories of that land and its people. As we wove together the soil, the lives, and the voices of the community, the shape of a feature-length film began to emerge before us.
And that was it, one step, then another, and eventually it became today’s Delupi.

Premiere & Nationwide Release
From the very beginning, it was our dream that the people whose lives shaped this film would be the first to watch it. Staying true to that promise, Delupi had its world premiere in the courtyard of Darun Mallick School in Deluti Union. On the full-moon night of 05 November 2025, the film began its journey before nearly 1,500 villagers.
Also, our intention has always been to take this film to places where cinema rarely reaches. In an era dominated by Dhaka-centric and Eid-centric releases, it may seem like an unusual ambition, but the Delupi team was never one to wait and follow the tide.
Swimming entirely against the current, Delupi released on 07 November at Liberty Cinema Hall in Khulna. From 10 November, Khulna Shilpakala Academy hosted a three-day screening festival. Then, on 14 November, the film was released nationwide. And from the very first day, it won the hearts of audiences and critics alike.

International Journey
Unlike many films that begin their journey on the international festival circuit before being seen at home, Delupi chose a different path. We wanted the film to be experienced first by the people whose lives inspired it. Even if that meant missing out on some international festivals initially, prioritizing the Bangladeshi audience was a conscious and heartfelt decision.
That commitment did not limit the film’s reach. Delupi had its international premiere at the 55th International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) 2026, marking a significant milestone for Bangladeshi cinema. The film was selected for the prestigious Bright Future section—making Delupi the first Bangladeshi film ever to be included in this category.
Now stepping into a wider global conversation, Delupi carries with it the river, the people, and the stories of the land where it was born.
